Important Road Closure Update [June 2017]:

Due to storm damage from last winter, the highway leading to us is still under repair as of this writing. It is important for you to know that the only way you will be able to get to the Hermitage, before October, is over the Santa Lucia Mountains on Nacimiento Road.  This road comes out on Highway 1 about 4 miles south of the Hermitage.
It is accessed via Highway 101.  Cal Trans highway repair crews estimate they will have the bridge north of us repaired in October, so access on Highway 1 from the north will resume at that time.

Whoever you are, if you choose to become a guest of the hermitage you will be more than welcome: simply by your presence here you will play a vitally important role in the daily life of the monastic community, for whom receiving guests is deeply rooted in our journey into God through prayer and work.

The monks of New Camaldoli Hermitage would be delighted to welcome you here, where we trust you would experience some of the reality to which a great Benedictine motto refers: a dynamic and creative “peace.” For now let us welcome you to the online home of our Retreat House!

Private Retreats

Private, self-guided retreats (time at the hermitage without a schedule of “conferences” or talks) are available to the public. Minimum stay is 2 nights. For information and availability, check our accommodations page.

Preached Retreats

These guided retreats are based on specific topics. Usually spanning a weekend (sometimes a few weekdays), these retreats are led by a “retreat master” who offers a series of “conferences” or talks following some kind of theme.

The Hermitage is pleased to announce our schedule of directed retreats for the year. The number of offerings has been expanded this year and brief descriptions are provided here, where available.

Preached retreat weekends can be booked by calling our Guest Ministry Monday-Thursday at (831) 667-2456 x143. If calling on Friday-Saturday-Sunday, please dial ext. 100 to speak to the bookstore attendant.  You may also send an email to

We ask that you register for only one preached retreat per year, but you can be on the waiting list for other retreats. The cost is $60.00 in addition to the cost for the room or private hermitage.

Group Retreats

The Chapter room is available for days of recollection and other one-day events for groups of up to forty persons.
If you would like a monk to be involved with your day – giving a conference (or talk), hearing confessions, or in some other way – please be sure to make arrangements in advance to avoid disappointment

Your group is very welcome to join in the monastic community’s liturgical life and the hermitage chapel is always open for private prayer. The Chapel is not available for specially-scheduled Masses at other times.

Our accommodations can be made available to groups staying for a minimum of 2 nights (weekdays and some weekends) – please be sure to make arrangements in advance. Please contact Katee in Guest Ministry for our group policy information.

If you have any further questions, or are interested in the possibility of group retreat with us, please feel free to contact our Guest Ministry:
