Does the Hermitage have a minimum or maximum stay requirement?
Yes, we have a 2 night minimum stay and a 14 night maximum stay requirement. We find (and our guests support this) that one simply cannot receive the full benefit of disconnecting from the busy world with a single night stay. To truly experience the wonder and joy of this silent retreat, you need at least 2 nights.
How much notice do I have to give to arrange a private retreat?
It is helpful for you to arrange your private retreat in advance. Same day reservations are usually not possible however not impossible.
Is spiritual direction and or the sacrament of reconciliation available?
Spiritual direction and the sacrament of reconciliation is available upon request at the bookstore during regular operating hours.
Does the retreat house have dorm-like rooms?
The Retreat House rooms are single occupancy only. Please the accommodations and rates page for details.
Will I have to share a bathroom?
No. The Retreat House guest rooms (Rooms 1-9) each have a half bathroom with sink and toilet. Two private showers are shared between these rooms (Located in the middle of the building along with a kitchen). However, all private hermitages and double occupancy rooms have attached private bathrooms. Click site map
If I’m assigned a room with two twin beds, does this mean I’ll be expected to share the room?
We have 6 double occupancy rooms which, if assigned to a single traveler, are used as single occupancy rooms. We will never ask you to share a room with someone you don’t know. NOTE: all guests must be registered; unregistered guests are not allowed to share single or double occupancy rooms.
Do I need to bring my own bedding and towels?
The Retreat House provides bedding, towels and small soaps.
Are minors allowed to be overnight guests?
Generally we do not allow anyone under the age of 16 to stay here. For more information contact our guest-master at (831) 667-2456 ext 108.
What times are the meals?
All meals are picked up by our guests in the Retreat House kitchen. The times below are approximate and are determined by service times:
- Breakfast – 6:30am-10:00am
- Lunch – 12:30pm-1:00pm (hot buffet style – main meal of the day)
- Dinner – 3:00pm onward
What if I have food allergies or I’m on a diet. Can I bring my own food?
Guests staying in rooms 1-9 are welcome to use the kitchen in the Retreat House. There is a full-size refrigerator, microwave, toaster and utensils available for guests’ use. We ask that guests put their names and the dates of their retreat on their food items.
The private hermitages and Scholastica have full kitchens and allow for guests to prepare their own meals.
The hermitage kitchen generally prepares vegetarian meals. Occasionally we do have fish. Since we can’t guarantee an absence of allergens in the open kitchen system, we’re not able to offer any other specialty meals.
Can we attend the prayer services with the monks?
How do I get to New Camaldoli Hermitage?
Our address and a link to an online map can be found here. Please note that there is no public transportation to the Hermitage. We do not have a shuttle. The only way to get here is by car.

Do you accept credit cards?
You may make the deposit using Visa and MasterCard. Upon arrival you may also pay by check and or cash.
Where is lost and found?
For lost and found items, please check with the bookstore at 831-667-2456 ext 124. All items will be held for one week, after which time items will be donated to a local charitable organization. Hermitage is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
Are pets allowed to come with me on retreat?
We are sorry – pets are not permitted in our accommodations, although medically required (and approved) service animals are welcome.
Can I get access to the internet while on retreat?
There is no internet, cell phone, radio or TV service here at the hermitage. Also, there are no landlines in the retreat rooms, although we have a courtesy phone line available for making brief calls that are of an imperative nature (to let family know you’ve arrived safely, etc.)
Do you offer financial assistance to those who are unable to pay the full room rate?
